Bust-length portrait of Nicolaes Tulp (Amsterdam 1593 – 1674), one of the most famous medical doctors of the 17th century, and burgomaster of Amsterdam.
Engraving with stipple work, on hand laid paper, sheet size 214 x 167 mm., platemark 140 x 85 mm.
Made by Lambert Visscher (Haarlem 1631/3 – 1690 Italy), a Dutch printmaker and draughtsperson, brother of Johannes Visscher and Cornelis II Visscher.
Two diagonal creases in the margins, a tiny hole just left of the platemark, lower left. Otherwise fine.
