Lamme Goedzak sleeping on the saddle of his donkey. Lamme Goedzak is the best friend of Thyl Ulenspiegel from Charles De Coster's novel The Legend of Thyl Ulenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak (1867).
Woodcut on Japanese paper, sheet size 344 x 291 mm., image size c. 230 x 216 mm. Made by Oswald Wenckebach and published in the Houtsnedenummer (Woodcut issue) of the famous periodical Wendingen in 1919 (year 2, nr. 7/8). It was printed by De Volharding and published by De Hooge Brug.
Ludwig Oswald Wenckebach (Heerlen 1895 – 1962 Noordwijkerhout) was a Dutch monumental artist, restorer, graphic artist, sculptor and painter. He was a student of his uncle, Willem Wenckebach. He made a number of war memorials and restored monumental structures.
In good condition. The left edge folded over, some creases in the right edge (one in the edge of the image). Faint foxing in the top margin, a small stain in the top right corner.
