'Martinus Trompius H.F. Hollandiae et Occidentalis Frisiae rerum maritimarum vicepraefectus'. Lieutenant Admiral Tromp (1598-1653) was a famous Dutch navy officer and naval hero.
Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 332 x 422 mm., platemark 329 x 419 mm. Engraving by Jonas Suyderhoef (1613-1686) after the painting by Hendrick Pot (ca. 1580-1657) dated 1639. Therefore, this print was made between 1639 and 1686.
Margins cropped close to the platemark, some inobtrusive creasing in the corners, margin edges with faint foxing. On the verso the collection mark of W. Edwards (Lugt 2616).
