Beschrijving
Leipzig, Bar & Hermann, 1868, 147 pages and a 10 page pricelist, paper on board binding, title written on spine, auction of two eminent collections of art. Previously owned by J.H. Krelage. Auction catalogue of the private art collection of Rudolph Weigel, owner of an auction house. Leipzig-based print-dealer, publisher and collector, descendant of the long-established Weigel dynasty. Published a 'Kunstcatalog' from the 1830s that served as standard price-lists for earlier prints.
The company (Rudolph Weigel Art Auction Institute) was taken over in 1871 complete with its customer file by Paul Erwin Boerner (1836-1880) who previously worked as a commission agent for the Rudolph Weigel. This was a huge expansion for C.G. Boerner (q.v.) and it marked the start of the company's auctioning activities. 'Otto Weigel Leipzig' appears as publisher on William Simpson's series of lithographs 'The Seat of War in the East' (Abbey Travel 237), 1855-6; presumably related.
