London, Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1885,Twenty-Fourth Edition, viii,517 pages, frontispiece (printed) and 10 photographs each tipped on card pages inserted throughout the book, half leather binding, leather corners, gilt letterng on spine, ‘photographs’ in gilt lettering on bottom of spine, marbled boards and marbled flyleaves, luxurious edition, donated on 5 July 1889 by Jonathan Elwell (West?) living in Ilfracombe to his sister Caroline Elisabeth West (1833-1909) who married Johan Hendrik van Lennep (1825-1897) son of Jacob van Lennep. He supplied a poem as well.
